Week 9: Last Week of School (Remote Learning Wrap Up)

Congratulations on making it to the last week of school and remote learning.  Below, you will find recommendations and best practices from Canvas and your technology trainers.

Recommendations from Canvas
Grade Syncing Best Practices
    • For those of you who have grade passback with your SIS, right now during the end of the Semester, the grade syncing queue can get backed up. So we recommend telling teachers to only hit the grade sync button once, then give it time to run through the queue. Most of the extra grade sync traffic near the end of a term is due to teachers clicking grade sync multiple times if the sync doesn't process instantaneously.

End of Course Best Practices for Teachers
  • Recording for Teachers: Wrapping up your Canvas Year Webinar
  • Beginning and End of Course Checklist
  • Sharing Course Content
    • Share to Commons If you'd like to share your course content to Commons, you can do so privately, with others in the district, or with the public.
    • Direct Share (feature option that needs to be enabled)  Want to share specific content objects with certain people?  You can do that too but you’ll need to make sure to do so before your course concludes on date.
  • Copying Course Content
    • Copy a Course  You can copy your course content from this school year to next school year and make adjustments and edits in preparation for next year when the new courses are created.  This year's course will act as a holding place until you receive your live courses this fall. Please note the course will still be attached to its previous term and the admin will need to adjust the term within course settings.
    • Import From Commons Import content from courses you have shared to Commons or resources shared by other educators into your new Sandbox Courses.
    • Copy Course Content From Past Course  You can import all of your course content from the previous year or select specific content from past courses. Here (in your Sandbox), you can make any additions or edits to prepare for next year. Make sure to select the box to include completed courses to get a full list.
    • When you get your new course shells in the fall, follow the directions above to import the content from last year's completed courses into your official fall Canvas courses.

Please direct specific Skyward end of year questions to Matt Toczek.
Have a safe and happy summer!!

*How can I add comments to students in Pearson using Early Learning Theme View?
Response from LCSC Tech Trainers:
It seems that students really like this view even at the upper elementary levels.  The work around for this would be to make a Canvas Assignment or Event in your calendar and have the students submit to you.  Then you can provide feedback in Speed Grader.

Here are two Canvas examples that you can search for in the Commons:
