Still Bothered by "Reply All"?

We are still hearing buzz about people that are getting inundated with "Reply All"  emails and then came across the image below on social media.  Because of this, we decided to revisit the subject of the bothersome "Reply All" emails.  



Some staff members may not have an option for just reply.  See the directions below for that information.  If you are still finding the "Reply All" feature to be bothersome, there is something you can do.  You can politely have a conversation with your colleague that may not understand the etiquette of it, or you can mute the conversation by following the steps below.

How to Mute Gmail Conversations

  1. In Gmail, select the conversation you want to mute.
  2. Click More. and select Mute.
  3. After you mute a conversation, it's removed from your inbox and archived. You can still see the conversation in All Mail with a Muted label applied.

How to Turn off "Reply All" default

Sometimes our email is set to "Reply All" as a default, and we don't even realize it. To turn off the "Reply All" as the default, click here for instructions.


Watch out for the canned (supplied) responses!

You may have noticed that Google provides a few auto generated responses at the bottom of emails you receive from other staff members. If you click on one of those responses, it will automatically send that response to the entire list of emails that were on the original email sent out. Basically it will default to "reply all" without you even knowing it.
This is a good reason to use BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) when sending emails to large groups of people. That way, should someone use an auto response, it will only go to the original sender. Here are some examples of auto responses generated by Google:
